Inlet Grove Reading and English teacher, Rose Pawlin, published her first book titled “Trials, Tribulations, and Triumphs” through Amazon.com on February 16, 2020.
Pawlin goes into detail about the backstory of her book and recaps her life thus far:
Q: How did you become a teacher?
A: What inspired me to become a teacher was [that] school was my escape because my home life was very hard. I always wanted to stay in school because that’s where I felt the happiest and one educator made me feel so at home and loved learning that I wanted to bring that same joy that I found to others and teach them to use school and escape as well.
Q: What is the backstory behind your book, what inspired you to write it, and what is it about?
A: My book is actually a memoir. It’s about all of the trials and tribulations that I’ve actually faced growing up, which includes: child abuse, sexual abuse, and just some really rough times; even becoming an educator and how I overcame that. It was written more for people who are going through a rough time to realize there is a light at the end of the tunnel, to not give up.
Q: What was the process of getting it published on Amazon?
A: It was really easy. If you go ahead and search for self- publishers, Amazon was one of the ones that popped right up and their format was very easy to use. You type up your book in your own way and it gives you all the guidelines, so it makes it really easy.
Q: Is your book only on Amazon or are there other outlets that it’s published on?
A: As of right now, it’s only on Amazon. I have to look to see if we can branch out.
Q: After this book, what are your future plans as far as potentially writing another book or becoming further along in the English field?
A: Well, I do want to go back to school and actually get my doctorate. Part of my book actually states that I will continue growing as an educator, so that would be my first step. Also, I want to continue to be an advocate for kids who are going through child abuse, through mental illness, through neglect, just bad stuff at home. I want to be there for them. So as far as publishing another book, I think maybe I’ll focus on teacher truths and what people don’t get.
