QUEEN OF THE KITCHEN: Culinary Academy senior Yolnicka Jeune was crowned 2018 Career and Technology Education (CTE) student of the year. Yolnicka achieved this award due to her role model qualities such as having a positive attitude, following safety precautions and working well to help and lead other students.

ROBOTICS TO KITCHEN: Mr. Gross, the Robotics team sponsor, has traded metal parts for metal pans. Here he was showing Chef Newmans class how to make Paella (a Spanish rice dish). Mr. Gross, from Mobile, Ala., says that Alabama has their own version of the Louisiana classic, made during the Mardi Gras season.

SISTER TO SISTA:  A visit to the Urban League for the 2017 Breast Cancer Awareness Month Luncheon was only one of the career activities on a busy Hurricanes Wednesday. Senior LPN TOP members helped prepare and decorate for this event. They also were presenters on self breast exam. Meanwhile, a new group of Culinary Academy apprentices landed at the Sailfish Marina: Shanoca Walker, Emma Joseph and Nehani Abreu. Back in Dr. Tellezs class, Medical Academy students Raymond Richards and Bradley Calixte were using technology to learn anatomy and physiology.

OCEAN VIEW: Before Chef Newmans classes began to fish we all looked out from the boat at the sea, seeing jellyfish, sea turtles and even coconuts floating by. The captain showed us how to hook the bait (which was either squid or sardines) correctly on the fishing pole.
