Senior officers organized an event called Lanterns on the Beach for seniors to enjoy themselves. The event was held at Lake Worth Beach on March 14.
Since the event was not school-sponsored, seniors were required to contribute at least $5 to the senior officers by using a Cash App code.
Despite the event starting at 5 pm, most seniors came around 6 pm due to traffic and the protest that was happening outside of Trump’s house.
“I left at 5:14 and arrived at 6:20, and it was terrible coming through West Palm Beach traffic,” Said Samuel Englich, a Senior in the Marine Academy. “I was wondering what caused traffic and I only noticed why after 20 minutes which is because President Trump was here and there was a protest near his house. After when we passed his house the traffic was clear.”
Different seniors brought items such as cups, cookies, blankets, a speaker, a football, water guns for senior assistance, etc to share with each other. The senior officers used the money that the senior officers used to buy the lanterns from Amazon.
“I came to the event to spend time with my friends in the graduating class,” said Jackson Mollo, a Senior in the Marine Academy. “While there, I was trying to create fun memories to look back on down the line… My favorite moment was when we lit the first lantern.”
The event featured artists such as Frank Ocean, Malcolm Todd, Justin Bieber, and more. Later on, seniors played dancing songs such as Cha Cha real smooth.
“My favorite moment is when we started lighting up the first lantern and Malcolm Todd played and we’re all synced with lyrics, it was sensational,” Said sincere Rodriguez, a Senior in Early admission.
After some time, Students came close together to light up the lanterns, yet there was one problem which was the wind. Due to the wind, it did take some time to light up the lantern but with the help of 5 canes, the lantern eventually floated away at 8:19 pm and crashed into a tree at 8:23 pm.
“I was scared when the lantern crashed into the tree,” said Janelle McIntosh, a Senior in the Medical Academy. “I found it funny how we all ran to the tree trying to get the lantern down and when we did, we all ran into our cars and drove off.”
Yet most seniors said the night was a night that they made good memories.
“I think we had a great outcome, unforgettable memories were made that night.” Said Senior officer Jessica Bureau, “We appreciate everyone who came, the vibes were great.”
