The Canes meet the pros

UNPRECEDENTED: When the members of nine South Florida professional journalism organizations socialized in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday, Oct. 19, the Canes were there too. Joining (from left) Pilar Portela-Webb of Business Wire, the Palm Beach Post’s Lulu Ramadan, veteran journalist Juan Diasgranados and Journalism instructor C.B. Hanif are sophomore Yorgelis Yambo, and freshmen Starlia Dormeus and Brianna Luberisse. The Hurricanes soaked up wisdom at the unprecedented gathering of members of the Florida Press Club; the Florida Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists; the South Florida Black Journalists Association; the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, South Florida Chapter; the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association, South Florida Chapter; the Journalism and Women Symposium; the Arab and Middle Eastern Journalists Association; the Native American Journalists Association; and the Online News Association. Next, the Hurricanes storm the Florida Scholastic Press Association District 7 Conference at Nova Southeastern University Oct. 22.
