VICTORY FOR UNITY: Cane-gratulations to sophomore Victoria Lawrence (left), daughter of Herman and Judith Lawrence, shown here with her mother, president of Inlet Grove’s School Advisory Council, as Palm Beach School Board members honored dozens of winners of the 2017 Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Contest during the Feb. 15 board meeting. Victoria won second place in this year’s MLK Oratorical Competition for her presentation on this year’s theme, “Defend the dream united; promote non-violence, social justice and positive behavior.” Other Hurricane winners (not pictured) were senior Ruchama LaFontant, first place Essay; freshman Starlia Dormeus, second place and Honorable Mention, Photography; and senior Rachelle Rene, Honorable Mention, Essay. Also recognized by the School Board were Executive Director Edith C. Bush and other members of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Coordinating Committee, the annual scholarship awards sponsor.
