Here’s a look at the  Hurricanes’ 2015-2016 varsity basketball squad.

Dharma Alcius

A junior in the TV & Film Production Academy who plays point guard, Dharma Alcius said he joined the team because basketball is a way to improve his skills and personality. He also said he loves the sport and really wants to make it as a basketball player. His other hobbies include listening to music and watching anime shows. His favorite NBA teams are the Washington Wizards and Miami Heat; his favorite players are John Wall and Paul George. He said the people who inspire him are Joseline Beaubrun and Marc Davis, and the best advice he has been given is, “Dreams come true with hard work and prayer, so keep it up.”

Tristan Stephens

A sophomore in the Culinary Academy who plays small forward, Tristan Stephens said he joined the team because basketball is his favorite sport. His favorite NBA team is the Golden State Warriors and his favorite player Stephen Curry.  The people who inspire him are his friends and family, he said, and the best advice he has received is, “Nothing comes easy, if you really want something you will work for it.”

Mitchel Desulme

A junior in the TV & Film Production Academy who plays power forward and center, Mitchel Desulme said he joined the team to get faster. His other hobbies include football and working out, his favorite NBA team is the Miami Heat and his favorite player is Kyrie Irving. Someone who inspires him is his mother.

Khalil Morris

A junior in the Culinary Academy whose position is forward, Khalil Morris said he joined the team because he has a passion for basketball. His favorite NBA teams are the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers, and his favorite players are Michael Jordan and LeBron James. The people who inspire him are his coaches, he said, and the best advice he has received is, “Nothing comes easy if you really want something, you will have to work for it.”

Brandley Jasney

Brandley Jasney, a junior in the Pre-Engineering Academy, who plays guard and forward, said he joined the team because of his passion and love for the sport. His favorite hobbies include anything that involves being active, such as playing drums. His favorite NBA team is the Oklahoma City Thunder, his favorite NBA player Kevin Durant. His family inspires him, he said. The best advice he has received is, “Work the hardest you can, give it your all and you will be successful,” he said, and the worst advice, “You have to want to succeed as much as you want to breathe.”

Jaylen Joyce

Jaylen Joyce, a freshman in the Pre-Engineering Academy who plays guard and forward, said he joined the team because it’s always been his dream to play ball, and it also will open opportunities for him in life. His favorite NBA team is the New York Knicks, his favorite NBA player Carmelo Anthony. People who inspire him are Eric Thomas and Carmelo Anthony, he said, and the best advice he has been given is, “Always work hard even when coaches aren’t looking.”

Jhyv Philor

Jhyv Philor is a junior in the Pre-Engineering Academy who plays guard. He said he joined the team because he loves to play and win in basketball, and also would like to improve his leadership and communication skills. His favorite NBA team is the Miami Heat, his favorite player is Dwyane Wade. He said his father inspires him, and the best advice he has been given is, “Through every dark night, there is a bright day.”

Dante Moses

A sophomore in the Culinary Academy whose position on the team is guard, Dante Moses said he joined the team because of his love for the sport. His favorite NBA player is Kyrie Irving, his favorite NBA team the Cleveland Cavaliers. Someone who inspires him is his grandmother, he said, and the best advice he has been given is, “You can be the best player in Palm Beach County.”

Erron Stephens

Erron Stephens is a senior in the Web Design Academy whose position on the team is forward. He said he joined the team because he loves basketball. His favorite NBA team is the Golden State Warriors, his favorite NBA player Stephen Curry. He said someone who inspires him is his mother.

Shaquelle Hall

Shaquelle Hall, a senior in the Web Design Academy whose position on the team is forward, said he joined because of his love for the sport. His favorite NBA team is the Miami Heat. His favorite NBA player is Chris Paul. People who inspire him are his coaches, his teammates and his mother, he said, and the best advice he has been given is, “Hard work and dedication will get you anywhere.”
