For a bloody good cause

Staffer with intriguing sign.

Just another ordinary day at Inlet Grove, but with blood. Lots and lots of blood. And not just any blood, but pints of donors’ blood.

I know what you’re thinking: Why are the words blood and school in the same sentence? Don’t worry, it was for a good cause…The Blood Drive, which was Nov. 12.

One Blood is a nonprofit community organization responsible for providing safe, available and affordable blood to more than 200 hospital partners and their patients throughout most of Florida, parts of Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina. The One Blood organization has been partnering with schools around the world.

Inlet Grove’s blood drive was a success, with more than 20 donors and the help of student blood drive volunteers Rainne Kasik, Brenda Joseph, Stephie Victome, Jennifer Saint-Fort, Makeda Henry and Meghan Tackore.

Taquira Hickson, a senior in the Medical Academy who donated blood, said the experience “was fun, not painful at all.”

Inlet Grove will have another blood drive in two months and hopefully will get more donors, and no fainting victims. Stay tuned.
