Weaving homes

The Behavioral Health Club has initiated a project to provide comfort and shelter for the homeless. They are planning to achieve this goal by creating sleeping bags and pillows using recycled material. “We use the bags because it lessens waste”,  said Jaliyah Beauvoir a 10th grader in the Medical Academy.

“To make the sleeping bags you first take a bag and fold it in half, then you cut off the top part and a little bit of the bottom part, then you fold it in half again vertically and cut it half, then you open the two cut up portions and make a T shape out of them, after that you tie them into a knot, after that you keep doing that with other bags until you have a ball, and then we knit that ball into sleeping bags and pillows,” said Treasure Youmans a 10th grader in Digital Design.

Mrs. Potter said that she wants to bring attention to homelessness and people with mental health issues. “Many people who have issues with mental health aren’t able to attain treatment and become homeless,” said Mrs. Potter, “and we want to bring attention to those suffering from mental health issues and homelessness.”
