Do something when the time is right.
That’s what your father says from time to time, for whatever reason. You never really took that to heart though.
Tuesday, January 21, 2025. Play games in Computer Science class, struggle with a Mac in Multimedia Production, a pretty typical day at Woodlot Cove High School for you. 3rd period comes around, and you’re hoping that your teacher is there this week so that you can use a camera.
Nope. Still out.
You have Journalism for your 3rd period class, even though you’ve already been there before. Because of that, you’ve been put into the group of “Intermediate Journalists”. Each individual within this group needs to either get busy on the yearbook or post two Covewatch articles per week to get an A.
Easy, right? Eh..
On that day, you decided to not do anything until there was really something relevant to the school to write about. You felt like doing anything other than that would be writing nonsense for the sake of a grade. And that’s lame.
So you sat there and did practically nothing with the mountain of time on your hands.
Wednesday comes around, and you do the same old thing. However, in 3rd period, someone starts to bother you, and you can’t see him.
“Hey! Why don’t you do something today,” he says. You ignore him. “There’s plenty of stuff to write about.” Dismissed. “MLK day just passed, you could write about him. You wrote an article about the TikTok ban last week, you can make an aftermath.” Don’t care.
The guy is getting on your nerves, so you drown out his noise by watching YouTube videos. And with that, you’ve successfully slacked off another day.
Thursday is here, and now you have something to do; take notes on the upcoming Multimedia Production test. Naturally, you hardly do that despite putting it on your to-do list and continue doing nothing productive.
After lunch ends, before that guy gets a chance to bug you again, you preemptively decide that you’re just not going to submit anything. Like, nothing at all. Just take the F and wait for next week.. and then you start playing chess for some reason?
Friday rolls in, and let’s cut to the chase, something came over you in Journalism class. Or maybe somebody?
That guy starts talking again to your chagrin, shouting, “You don’t even have to make something related to Woodlot! Just write something! Do something when the time is right, and I’ll give you a hint, the time is right now.”
It takes you almost half of the period to finally come to a conclusion, but eventually you say “Sure, why not.” So you brainstorm for a couple of minutes, and start working on a very unconventional story, especially for Covewatch. You’re almost certain that your teacher wouldn’t like it, but this is all you have by this point.
You get home and keep working on it, or at least you planned to, but ADHD has you in a choke-hold. “Maybe I can play a game or two before I start.” “I wanna listen to some music.” Time flies by so fast that it’s 10 PM and you need to take a shower already.
After that, it’s almost 10:30 and you haven’t even written half of your story. What’s that phrase other Gen-Zers say? “Lock in”? You locked in.
You start typing like a seasoned programmer after drinking a whole cup of coffee, breathing like a bull and recapping the week like literally nothing happened in it because you have really bad memory.. but still kept going.
You take constant peeks at the time, and it feels so fast that you start thinking God is speeding up time just to make you fail. But if there was one thing that you weren’t going to do, it was repeating the row of D’s from last year.
You wish that you could play something right now, but you don’t have the audacity to pick up your tablet anymore. This is getting finished, urgently.
By the last few minutes you have, you’ve basically run out of things to type. Maybe that’s because you’ve reached where you are now, typing the story at 11:57. It’s about time to put the whole thing to rest and finally submit the article. And.. done. Sweet relief.
