Scholastic Journalism Week (SJW) is a special week used to publicize and promote student publications and the importance of student journalism.
On Grovewatch, our students have been participating in this week ever since 2020. The official span of it is from Feb. 24-28. However, we are late to the event this year and will be posting our articles from Apr. 21-25.
Every year, there’s a different general theme for SJW. This year’s theme is “Power of the Press”, referring to the press’s ability to freely publish information to keep our citizens informed and use its platform for cultural and political expression.
There are also daily themes for this event, which are as follows:
Monday, Apr. 21: First amendment
Tuesday, Apr. 22: Leaders in journalism
Wednesday, Apr. 23: Press rights in action
Thursday, Apr. 24: Student Press Freedom Day
Friday, Apr. 25: Trends, ideas and technology
Some students saw our contributions last year to be arguably disappointing. We hope to make this week an interesting and valuable one to make up for it. Make sure to leave a comment on the articles if you have any feedback for us. Thanks for reading!
