GRAB A SLICE: Sept. 5 is National Cheese Pizza Day. Chef Newman wanted to recognize it with her Culinary Academy students by making a healthier version of a cheese pizza. They made the pizza with ingredients that have less calories; for example, instead of using dough for the base of the pizza they used wheat tortillas. For the toppings they used caramelized onions and and mushrooms, baby arugula, and for the cheese they used mozzarella and Gouda. Chef also used this day as a way to show her students how to make health foods based off of foods that are not so healthy for you. Students who participated are Jose Murillo, Jorge Murillo, Woody Andre and Troy Africa.
