NEW LEADERS: The National Honor Society is gearing up for another vigorous year of tutoring sessions and community outreach programs. The society’s leaders were announced during the first meeting Aug. 22: (from left), Annamarie Mitrovich, Jamina Claude, Maria Murillo, Joudelyne Altidor, Denise Leak, Jamesha Kendall and Nyoka Fowler.

The National Honor Society (NHS ) welcomed its new members to their first meeting of the school year on Aug. 22 by planning and organizing a boat tour to Jonathan Dickinson State Park on Sept. 1.

This field trip will not only be adventurous and exciting, but club members “will receive four hours of community service,” said Joudelyne Altidor, NHS president and a senior in the International Baccalaureate program.

To be a part of this action-filled community service society, a student must have a GPA of at least 3.5, show leadership skills, and have a conduct grade ranging between 3 and 4 in every class.

Mathematics instructor Ma. Lourdes Reyes continues to serve as the adviser. Look for further updates throughout the year as we keep our Hurricanes Family up to date on all the society’s activities .
