Chargers top Canes 35-0

HEARTFELT EFFORT: Coach Terry Bradden Jr. in his first season leading the Hurricanes.

The Inlet Grove Hurricanes sacked highly rated Suncoast High School quarterback Matt Dane on the first play of the game as the Canes visited the District Champions Oct. 30.

But Dane managed to draw the visitors offside on fourth down, and the Chargers methodically marched downfield for a 7-0 lead.

A Chargers fumble recovery on the Hurricanes’ first drive assisted the Chargers on their second score on a Dane pass and a 14-0 lead with the extra-point kick.

Suncoast forced and recovered another fumble on the Hurricanes’ next possession, and the Canes took the ball back on the next play.

That was followed by a Chargers pick-six interception; the failed conversion kick made the score 20-0 going into the second quarter.

Dane’s long pass to the Canes’ 1-yard line set up a short touchdown run followed by Dane’s 2-point conversion pass for his team’s 28-0 lead.

Dane’s long bomb and the extra point made the score 35-0 going into halftime.

The Hurricanes never could get much going against their neighborhood rivals as the game ended 35-0.
