Scholastic Journalism Week, aka SJW, has been hosted every second week of February for more than 100 years. SJW focuses on promoting roles in journalism such as communication skills, critical thinking skills, and media literacy among students. Each year carries a different theme, and this year’s is “Power of the Press.”
Each day during SJW, advanced journalism students will feature an article, cartoon, and/or editorial highlighting the importance of the press, and share their experiences in the field. Students and staff can also learn more on our Instagram page: grove_news.
Our goal for this week is to spread awareness about the challenges and opportunities of journalism, including learning more about the extent of freedom of the press and how it affects us today.
Despite SJW being held in February, SJW will be posted this week of April due to advanced journalism students focusing on the yearbook back in February.

I really like this Story due to me being uneducated in what SJW was. Due to this story I was able to find out what SJW is, this year’s theme, and when it’s hosted. I can’t wait to see the theme you guys post.
