As prom night approaches, the excitement doesn’t just begin at the venue—it starts hours before, in bedrooms, living rooms, and group chats filled with anticipation.
This year’s prom will take place on April 18 from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel off PGA Boulevard. The theme, “Midnight Pearls,” promises an elegant evening for students to celebrate together.
Students spend the day getting ready, checking every detail more than once. Outfits are carefully chosen, sometimes after weeks of searching. Hair and makeup appointments are booked, canceled, and rebooked. Friends send pictures back and forth, asking for opinions and hyping each other up.
Phones buzz constantly as plans come together. Who’s riding with who? What time is everyone leaving? Did anyone forget anything? Despite all the preparation, there’s always a sense that something could go wrong—but that’s part of what makes the moment feel real.
Before heading to prom, many students gather with friends and family for photos. Parents adjust ties, fix dresses, and capture moments that feel both ordinary and unforgettable at the same time. Laughter mixes with nerves as students begin to realize this is more than just another school event.
Behind the scenes, staff members are also working to make the night possible. Mrs. Kim has worked to make sure everything is in place for students so they can truly enjoy their prom. From organizing details to ensuring the event runs smoothly, her efforts often go unnoticed but play a major role in shaping the experience.
Students also make plans to go out to eat before the dance, turning the night into more than just a few hours at a venue. It becomes a full experience—one built on friendship, celebration, and shared memories.
For seniors especially, the night carries extra meaning. Indera Washington, a senior, said she hopes prom will be “overall a fun night with good food, good music, good drinks, and no drama,” reflecting a common wish among students to simply enjoy the experience. Ty’Rique Alty, also a senior, shared similar expectations, saying he hopes prom will be “a fun night with a photo booth, lots of nice food and music, and an overall good vibe.”
Music will be a key part of the night, with DJ TJ providing entertainment and taking song requests from students to keep the energy high throughout the event.
Even with all the planning, what stands out most is how human the experience is. The nerves, the excitement, and the small imperfections all come together to create something meaningful.
By the time students walk out the door, ready to head to prom, the night has already begun—and for many, those quiet, chaotic, and emotional moments before the dance are just as memorable as prom itself.
