Scripps Lab

On Tuesday, Nov 13, the medical academy students performed a lab activity with Scripps to learn about biomedical.

Three speakers from the Scripps Lab came to talk to the medical students about medicine and gel electrophoresis. Gel electrophoresis is when electrical energy is used to separate molecular bases by their mass and polarity. This research allows for scientists to analyze DNA, RNA, or protein samples from various sources in order to test for genes associated with a particular disease. Students were allowed to experiment with the chemicals brought in and were even offered internships after the session.
