STILL CHAINED: The illustration depicts how African Americans still turn to religion after the hardships they've faced and the crimes committed by the church. Though physically freed from slavery, their minds were still chained to the religion taught to them by the Europeans. This method was meant to subdue them and have them turn to a higher power than use their own power to help their situation.
