OCEAN VIEW: Before Chef Newmans classes began to fish we all looked out from the boat at the sea, seeing jellyfish, sea turtles and even coconuts floating by. The captain showed us how to hook the bait (which was either squid or sardines) correctly on the fishing pole.

USE THAT MISE EN PLACE: It is only the second day of school and Chef Newmans first period class was busy at work prepping snicker doodle cookies for a board meeting. While they were getting the ingredients, Chef took the time to tell us about using mise en place (a French term meaning to organize the ingredients and have them measured out). It is easier to organize and measure out the ingredients first, than putting them together, said Chef .
